Grayling – Gulkana River 6/26-29

Once again the “Nobel” grayling went a long way to saving the trip! We left Fairbanks immediately after returning from Dune lake. We drove to north of Paxson and camped by the Gulkana River. We  had previously visited this area and loved it. We were not disappointed! I doubt many people would make a trip to AK just to fish the “sailfin” of the north be really enjoy it. The proclivity of the grayling to take dries makes it a blast. Add to that the fact that they get big on the Gulkana and you’ve got some fun. We fished the area and did some sightseeing for two and a half days.

The surroundings.
