Wednesday, March 13 found Ian, Jack, Regina and myself helping with the Sowbug Round Up in Mt. Home Arkansas. It is one of the biggest fly fishing “tie-ins” in the country. Have been trying to help out the last several years. Jack was one of the featured tiers and Ian found his way onto the floor also.
Thursday found me at the Wildcat access on the White River with my good friend Mike D. We headed up river on one unit to Tucker Shoal. This is one of my favorite places to fish on the White. It was a very humbling place this day! Mike got three nice fish right off the bat I got one and that was it. We kept working our way upstream with much the same results. Finally reached one of Mike’s favorite spots just below Stetson’s Resort and finished up the day pretty strong. Good Caddis hatch but couldn’t get them to take anything off the top.
It started off pretty cold.
My best fish of the day. Looks like post spawn for sure.
Friday Ian and I hit the Fork. They ran 2 units until 8 a.m. We waited till they cut the water off and then headed to the upper C&R. Looked like it would be a repeat of Thursday. Until a couple of guys fishing below us started whacking them pretty good. I was pretty frustrated with our meager results and figured they must have been fishing midges due to their location. Bingo! The G-Midge in a 22 was the ticket. Caught fish pretty steady for a couple of hours. It was a blast. Had to leave about 2 p.m. to make it to the Sowbug Banquet.
Had an uneventful trip home today and look forward to church tomorrow!
This was the fish of the trip for me. A very nice cutt!
